Join us for an intergenerational bike ride with LeadingAge conference attendees, students, and older adults at the UMass Boston Campus for a screening of Cycling Without Age, followed by a bike ride celebrating the power of movement and connection. Proceeds will support the purchase of a new trishaw to bring the joy of biking to more older adults.

Joy Ride Timeline
8:30 a.m. - Meet at Bus Pick up- Menino Convention & Exhibition Center 8:45 a.m. - Bus Departs Menino Convention & Exhibition Center Meet fellow attendees at the Menino Convention Center to take a bus to the UMass Boston campus.
8:45 - 9:30 a.m. - Check In & Breakfast - UMass, Boston, University Hall Please check in at the foyer area of University Hall, pick up a name badge and a jacket. Enjoy coffee and breakfast pre- and post-film.
9:30 - 10:15 a.m. - Film Screening: Cycling Without Age, including Discussion/Q&AThe film takes place at UMass Boston, University Hall, Room 1300. We will begin the Film Screening: Cycling Without Age at 9:30 a.m. The film is 30 minutes and will be followed by a discussion and Q&A. Please no drinks and food in the film screening.
10:15 - 10:45 a.m. - ReceptionMingle with fellow participants post-film and enjoy coffee and breakfast at the University Hall foyer before the bike ride starts.
10:45-11:30 a.m. - Bike Ride Starts - UMass Boston Campus Center/University HallIf you are renting a bike, the bike guides will have those ready for you at the UMass Boston starting point. If you're bringing your own bike, just meet everyone at UMass Boston, University Hall. We will have some LeadingAge community elders with Cycling Without Age trishaws joining the entourage! The ride starts, goes around campus, and ends (about a 2.5 mile route) - then we’ll return the bike rentals outside the University Hall building.
11:30 a.m.- Bus Departs UMass Boston for Menino Convention & Exhibition CenterBoard the bus at UMass Boston campus/Campus Center to return to the Menino Convention & Exhibition Center.
EVENT LOGISTICS
Rain/Storm Plan: In case of rain or stormy weather, we will still hold the reception/film at UMass Boston, University Hall and we'll cancel only the bike portion. We will contact all attendees by text and e-mail with updates.
Registration: Please be sure to register for the event by October 20. All trishaw participants - please contact Gwyn Earl at [email protected] to make sure she has the names of your organization's attendees.Daylight Savings Time: Be sure to set your clocks back 1 hour on Saturday night.Are you attending the event and coming from downtown Boston?Shuttle Bus: there will be a complimentary bus shuttle -please meet at 8:30 am at the Menino Convention & Exhibition Center, East Side Drive, Level 1 at the bus pick up area. The bus will have a LeadingAge Joy Ride sign on it. Bus departs at 8:45 am and will drop off participants at Campus Center/University Hall by 9:00 a.m. Post event, the bus will depart at 11:30 a.m. from Campus Center/University Hall back to the Menino Convention & Exhibition Center.
Are you driving, biking or taking rideshare to the event? Parking: If you are driving to the event, the Quad Lot is available for parking (shown on map below). Parking is $10 with the Passport app and can be purchased day of the ride. For those parking trailers/trishaws, we have arranged for special parking passes at the Quad Lot; please contact Gwyn Earl at [email protected] with your vehicle and trailer combined length. You can drop off your trishaw in front of Campus Center/University Hall (there is a bus driveway area) before parking if preferred. See more parking information and maps here.
Bike/Trishaw Parking and Bike Rentals: If you are bringing your own bike, there are bike racks in front of University Hall. Please bring your own helmet/bike lock to secure it during the film/reception. Trishaws can be parked directly outside the glass lobby entrance of University Hall. For those who opted to rent a bike, we will have those bikes/helmets ready for you after the film (adjacent to University Hall).
Rideshare Pickup/Dropoff: If taking rideshare to/from the event, please use the address: Campus Center, UMass Boston, 100 William T Morrissey Blvd, Boston, MA 02125. You will see University Hall next to Campus Center.
Film/Reception: The film and reception take place at University Hall, University Dr N, Boston, MA 02125. Please enter through the back or front entrance (facing harborside) and the auditorium (Room 1300) is right inside at lobby level. The reception will be in the front foyer area.Bike Route: The 2.5 mile bike route will be a counter clockwise figure 8 loop starting on the north side of University Hall, along the HarborWalk trail, then heading down Beacon Walk, back along the HarborWalk trail and ending back at University Hall. UMass Boston professors and students will guide everyone on the loop; signage/arrows will be visible along the route.
Each individual registrant should register separately. Please note, participants must be 16 years or older at the time of the event to participate. Register by October 20 to reserve your spot, space is limited!
